Creating a brand story

Hyper iOS App

2025

Hyper is an iOS social consumer app where users complete daily challenges such as ‘snap a pic of the cutest dog today’ earn points, and can redeem points for rewards. The Hyper app had a beta version out with some power users, but it wasn't ready for a community of followers yet. It was clear that it was missing some key branding. Since I was working as the solo product designer, and I had experience building brands, I suggested building it out properly.

Previously, we had hired an external brand designer, but there were some pain points that didn’t align with the company goals at the time. They took too long searching for visual directions and had a difficult time understanding the core story of Hyper. I knew the story so translating it into visuals was efficient.

Hyper is about creating a space for Gen Z and Gen Alpha to have fun in the moment again. Bringing the aesthetic nostalgia from the 90’s to communicate the fun times before phones and the internet. Hyper’s daily challenges such as “Snap your secret bestie handshake” and “Go touch some grass” get users out and off their couch and interacting with their friends in the real world.

The visuals had to communicate this, so I chose purple as the primary colour, (a colour that is missing in the social space) and lots of visuals with heavy grain and a camcorder aesthetic. I experimented with a lot of fonts and landed on a monospace font to really sell that typewriter nostalgia. All visual references to the nostalgic 90s but still keeping a modern clean look.

I designed merchandise, a new logo, created a whole brand system & brand assets, and set the tone for the social media aesthetic.
